Quality Assurance Manager

The Applied Companies is helping our valued client find their next Quality Assurance Manager.  This is an opportunity to join a small and amazing team that is growing every day!  You will be responsible for administration, control, and maintaining of the Food Safety (HACCP) Program and Quality Assurance Department at this foods manufacturing facility in Reno, NV. The QA Manager shall also fill the role of SQF Practitioner on-site, and oversee the Maintenance and Facility Maintenance department personnel. 

What the QA Manager will do:

• Ensure strict adherence of all company employees to facility Food Safety Plan objectives 

• Will be main point person representing the Quality Assurance Department, and oversees all Quality Assurance/Control activities under such designation

• Oversee Food Safety/HACCP Program policies and procedures

• Work with external Inspectors and Auditors to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented as necessary per evolving business needs

• Coordinate routine testing with external labs and expert resources

• Report discrepancies to all relevant departments for immediate and long-term correction and prevention of non-conformances

• Support and oversee all employee training activities, including new hire training

• Leading audits, RCA’s, CAPA’s, Customer Complaints, and all necessary inspection and investigation processes within the facility

• Leading annual Food Safety and Recall system activities and practices

• Must remain knowledgeable and keep the facility current on all regulatory changes or amendments implemented per FDA, FSMA and Washoe Health Inspection, and any other state, county, or federally regulated agency overseeing Food Safety and Food Defense requirements for Food Manufacturing 

• Work alongside with Senior Management Team to promote and implement continuous improvement initiatives and food safety objectives

• Work closely with Production personnel to assess product or process discrepancies and collaborate to determine solutions

• Complete regular inspections of incoming raw materials and components involved in the production process, including physical inspections as well as ensuring pertinent CoA’s, spec sheets and other documentation are received, reviewed for accuracy, and retained 

• Implement production plans and standard operating procedures to minimize risk, including creation or revision of existing SOP’s and forms to maintain compliance with SQF standards of operation

• Implement testing plans and procedures and execute facility testing as necessary

• Apply technical skills related to the product being tested (knowledge of programming languages to Quality Assurance software, knowledge of machinery for hardware, etc.)

• Working closely with Senior Management Team, Marketing/Business Development Team, and R & D department during Commercialization activities for new products and/or clients

• Contacting customers and suppliers/vendors of services as necessary to schedule meetings, discuss product concerns, or schedule 3rd party maintenance or testing for facility processes

• SQF Practitioner of the facility, managing relevant SQF program activities necessary under such designation

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in Food or Beverage Manufacturing, or a combination of education and relevant experience

• Formal education at a recognized College or University in the field of Food Science, Nutrition/Nutraceutical or related, or reasonable combination of College education and previous Quality Assurance/Quality Control experience

• Possess a PCQI and SQF Certification (PREFERRED) Quality Assurance/food related certifications (such as BRC/AIB/HACCP) will be considered an asset, specifically SQF and PCQI Certifications

• Confident to be a Leader and make decisions prescribing corrective actions

• Ability to meet deadlines and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel

• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate with individuals and teams

• Perform all work in a safe manner, following all health and safety operating procedures

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and demanding manufacturing environment
