You will be responsible for executing outside sales tactics, contacting and closing on new prospects, and maintaining existing account growth through provision of value added services. 

What the Outside Sales Representative will do: 

  • Makes in-person sales visits to prospects and existing customers, with the goal of increasing overall business and market share.
  • Utilizing both prospecting sales lists and existing customer information, proactively contacts the decision maker(s) within a company to introduce and promote stock and custom items; to suggest and negotiate special pricing, delivery, or stocking options; to suggest additional products and services including stock to demand, special packaging, made-to-order, and direct shipments.
  • Maintains close communication with the sales support team to utilize internal resources for developing quotations, updating UCDB, and researching account history, etc. Extracts pertinent information from customers and ensures information is updated in UCDB, SEM, or other programs as necessary.
  • Quotes and negotiates custom products and special quantities of stock merchandise. Uses appropriate promotional material and sales techniques to enhance the customer's/prospect's awareness of the capabilities of the Company in the areas of both stock and custom products.
  • Maintains close communication with Purchasing in order to have a thorough understanding of our suppliers capabilities and limitations.
  • Monitors account growth and keeps management apprised of any changes in account status.
  • Consistently keeps current on technical and personnel developments on accounts. With their supervisor, identifies when accounts are ready to be transitioned to Inside Sales and/or Customer Service.
  • Communicates efficiently to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Develops a broad knowledge and technical understanding of products and services available.
  • Prepares daily activity reports indicating sales accomplishments and follow-up work required.
  • Ability to work well independently, possessing strong communication skills and work habits.
  • Responsible for promoting and contributing to a positive, cooperative working environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What the Outside Sales Representative needs to have:

  • Post high school education or equivalent and three (3) years related experience and/or training in outside sales; or equivalent combination of sales and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and employees of the company.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be people oriented, demonstrating patience and objectivity. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and understanding of company policy and procedure.
  • Excellent accuracy and memorization skills.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work as a team, being unbiased and flexible.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to exercise sound judgment in developing solutions to day-to-day problems/concerns when interacting with office personnel and outside contacts.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must provide own transportation.
